Training completed: EMDR and Dissociation from a Transdiagnostic Perspective

An online training session led by Dolores Mosquera took place on 11 April.

4/11/2026

During the session, an integrative clinical framework for working with EMDR and dissociation was presented, approached from a transdiagnostic perspective. It was highlighted how dissociative phenomena can occur across a wide range of disorders and patients, beyond specific dissociative diagnoses.

Through clinical examples, the different ways in which dissociation can manifest during the therapeutic process were explored, ranging from subtle signs of disconnection to more complex internal blocks. These responses were addressed as adaptive attempts to manage emotional overload and maintain stability.

The training provided practical guidance for in-session intervention, focusing on the early identification of dissociative symptoms, adapting the pace of therapeutic work, and making clinical decisions about when to proceed or pause reprocessing. Adjustments to the EMDR protocol throughout the different phases of treatment were also presented.

The meeting enabled professionals to deepen their applied understanding of dissociation in EMDR, promoting safer interventions tailored to different clinical profiles.
