Advanced EMDR training with Roger Solomon

Dolores Mosquera will be leading the training session ‘Navigating Choice Points in EMDR Therapy – Insights from Experts’ alongside Roger Solomon

3/10/2026

EMDR therapy is a powerful methodology and yet for optimal success therapists need to continually develop their skills. For many clients, the reprocessing road toward recovery from adverse and traumatic experiences is laden with challenges. Ultimately relief comes after clients face, reprocess and ultimately integrate emotional material stored in memory that was “too much” to process at the time of a distressing event. However, there are times when reprocessing needs to slow down and stabilization take precedence. As an essential guiding partner in the EMDR therapy process, the EMDR therapist is confronted with many choice points to best assist the client. Routinely, if there is a shift between sets, the therapist says, “go with that.” But if the client goes outside their window of tolerance (e.g., hyper or hypo arousal) or reprocessing becomes blocked, then there are other choices for the therapist to consider. These include changing bls speed or length of sets, going back to target more often (e.g., EMD), grounding, and a vast range of cognitive interweaves which can include working with “parts” of the personality.

In this workshop, two master therapists will review video of clinical sessions, primarily involving clients with complex trauma and dissociative symptoms. They will also provide live demonstrations of EMDR methods adn live clinical consultation sessions. Roger Solomon and Dolores Mosquera will discuss subtleties of moment-to-moment decision making and offer insight into their thinking at key choice points in clinical sessions. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions of the presenters.

Participants will learn to recognize factors that go into choice points involving:

  • When to “interweave” and when to “stay out of the way”

  • Working with “Emotional Part(s)” that block or intensify memory reprocessing.

  • When to stabilize and how

  • Dealing with underlying attachment trauma

  • Considerations when dealing with an intense emotional experience during memory reprocessing

This training will illustrate how to adapt EMDR decision-making across a wide range of clinical presentations related to complex trauma, including dissociative disorders and selected DID cases.

This training will address key moments that arise during therapy sessions and the clinical decisions that can facilitate treatment progress. The programme will include clinical discussion, reflection on therapeutic practice, and opportunities for questions and discussion with participants.

The training will take place in Natick (Boston, USA) and is aimed at professionals with EMDR training who are interested in deepening their understanding of working with complex trauma and challenging clinical situations.
