Understanding and Treating Narcissism: Online training

On 18 and 19 April 2026, Dolores Mosquera and Kathy Steele will be leading a specialist training course aimed at improving the identification of overt and covert manifestations of narcissism

3/10/2026

In our clinical practice, we frequently encounter cases that do not easily fit into clear diagnostic categories. For this reason, we have designed this training program with the aim of providing a space for in-depth exploration and clinical updates regarding the understanding and treatment of narcissism, focusing on those aspects that are most often overlooked.

Narcissism is typically associated with visible manifestations such as grandiosity or a sense of superiority. However, in clinical practice, we know that it does not always present itself in this way. A significant number of cases take on covert or vulnerable forms, which are much more difficult to detect. These manifestations can be expressed through:

  • Inhibition

  • Interpersonal hypersensitivity

  • Intense shame

  • Withdrawal

  • Fragile self-image

In our experience, these symptoms are not only less obvious but are often masked by other clinical presentations, which can make both diagnosis and treatment more challenging.

In this training, we will focus specifically on developing a clinical eye that allows us to identify these subtle indicators and distinguish them more accurately.

Our goal is to provide rigorous, practical training that will help us:

  • Refine clinical detection skills, especially in cases with non-obvious presentations

  • Improve differential diagnosis

  • Understand the role of defense mechanisms

  • Address difficulties in the therapeutic relationship more clearly

  • Design interventions that are better tailored to each individual case

The training is organized into the following modules:

  1. The Different Facets of Narcissism

  2. Narcissism and Trauma

  3. Obvious clinical manifestations

  4. Latent (subclinical) clinical manifestations

  5. Defensive strategies and their role

  6. Therapeutic Relationship and Managing Challenges

  7. Selection of treatment goals and treatment planning

  8. Clinical Case Studies

Throughout the course, we will combine:

  • Structured theoretical presentation

  • Review of Current Clinical Models

  • Detailed case analysis

  • Practical application focused on intervention

Our goal is for this content to be directly applicable to everyday clinical practice.
